Molly's Castle and the Enchanted Circle
Molly's Castle, a beautiful red sandstone formation in Goblin Valley State Park, was looming in the distance as I hiked the valley. As I approached the monolith, being careful to walk only on hard surfaces and avoid the Cryptobiotic soil crust, I saw this layer of white sandstone leading up to the piles of boulders. I was entranced by its circular pattern of erosion. The circular pattern reminded me of an ancient spiritual gathering place...a very enchanted circle for Molly.
I chose to convert it into black and white because of the amazing textures in the stones, which would have been minimized by the color.
